For Whom the Bell Tolls
As is known, I mean, according to Wikipedia, For Whom the Bell Tolls is a novel by Ernest Hemingway published in 1940. It tells the story of Robert Jordan, a young American in the International Brigades attached to an anti-fascist guerilla unit during the Spanish Civil War. As an expert in the use of explosives, he is assigned to blow up a bridge during an attack on the city of Segovia. The title and epigraph are drawn from “Meditation XVII” of Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions, an essay by metaphysical poet John Donne. This novel is widely regarded to be amongst Hemingway’s greatest works, along with The Sun Also Rises, The Old Man and the Sea, To Have and Have Not and A Farewell to Arms.
You think this is what I’m going to talk about in this post? You are wrong! Here what I’m going to talk is a song called For Whom the Bell Tolls, written by Metallica. According to Wikipedia again, “Metallica is an American heavy metal band that formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, California. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a Los Angeles newspaper, Metallica’s original line-up consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, lead guitarist Dave Mustaine, and bassist Ron McGovney.” This is exactly what I’m going to discuss in this post.
Now let’s enjoy the beautiful lyric of the song For Whom the Bell Tolls:
Make his fight on the hill in the early day
Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun, on they run through the endless grey
On the fight, for they are right, yes, by whos to say?
For a hill men would kill, why? they do not know
Suffered wounds test there their pride
Men of five, still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane from the pain that they surely know
[chorus:]
For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tollsTake a look to the sky just before you die
It is the last time you will
Blackened roar massive roar fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now, are his eyes, to this mystery
He hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn, all is gone except the will to be
Now they will see what will be, blinded eyes to see
[chorus]
Are you feeling something from this song? Of course you are. Every time I read it with soft sound, I feel I’m stronger and stronger, it gives me powerful strength. This is why I like it so much. You may have noticed that For Whom the Bell Tolls is becoming one of the most popular keywords on internet. Yeah, there are so many people like it.
Ok, now let’s watch some videos about For Whom the Bell Tolls and Metallica and see what kind of strength they can give you.

After watching these videos, what are you feeling now? Don’t you want to say something about Whom the Bell Tolls? So say it out! “Whom the Bell Tolls is great! Metallica is great!”, this is exactly what you want to say, right?
